Symptoms
Uniform pale green discoloration on young leaves.
Reasons
Sulfur deficiency.
Nitrogen deficiency may cause similar chlorosis, but occurs on older leaves first. Plant analysis can help to identify S deficiency.
S deficiency more likely occur in:
- Soils with low organic matter status
- Highly weathered soils containing large amounts of Fe oxides.
- Sandy soils, which are easily leached
- In areas located far away from industrial centers.
- After intensive cropping and the use of S-free fertilizers.
- After intensive cropping and removing or burning the straw.
